zuma scooter have to kick start after it warms up?

by admin on April 11, 2010

I have a 2001 yamaha zuma 50cc scooter. It starts with the electric start fine when you first start it. But after you ride for awhile and then shut off you have to kick start it. The starter turns it over good but will not start. After you kick start, it has trouble idling for more than a few seconds

Ive had a few bikes that have done this and even a car, my peugeot speedfight does it now but I just thought it was normal being as Ive had it on other vehicles.

Check out the service manual:

It might have a section in there about how to diagnose the problem you are having.

Sounds like it’s running too rich, which would mean easy cold starting but impossible (almost) warm starting. Check/clean/replace the air filter and check to see that the choke isn’t stuck. (Could also be vapor lock, but unlikely in such a small motor).
