Well, it ain’t summer no more, but the Slip N Slide was the coolest thing ever to my daughter.
A Tree
seriously those kids will climb a tree for days straight if I let them.
Also a trampoline, I thought they would be over it after a while but 3 years later they are still on it at least 3-4 times a week.
Its not classic – but we like the brightness of the sidewalk crayons versus the sidewalk chalk.
Also , if you get the really big sidewalk chalks, and have a drive way, or quiet culdesac, you can make a cool giant board game, and roll a big box as a dice or racing track for the scooters – granted this takes a toll on the adults back, and makes you a little dizzy after making it.
Also invest a couple bucks in some cones.
As a kid, when camping, we loved the hammocks you could tie to 2 trees, and then wrap up in, while your siblings spun you around as fast as possible.
Bike, any kind of ball, basketball goal, soccer set, tball set, sand box, teeter totter and swing set.
Her bike
Wagons have been favorites for three of my children (the baby seems to enjoy riding in them, as well). Even my 12 and 10 year olds still play with the wagons. They grow well with the child, and you can find many different styles for various needs.
How about stilts and/or a pogo stick? Those are things we getting this year.
I seem to recall you have a younger child. Those Little Tikes playsets are well worth the value- they are expensive, but again we have one that held up through our oldest child (now 12) and is still in the same condition for our 5 month old to use when he can. And, we got it used!
Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, scooter and/or skateboard (we have one that converts from scooter to skateboard which is nice), bicycle (of course).
Basketball and hoop
Baseball, bat and catchers mitt
Tent
Hula hoops (even for a boy- they can be used for circus pretend play, as part of an obstacle course, etc. For some reason most people seem to think hula hoops are “girl” toys).
Sandbox and sand (you can buy or build the sandbox)
Butterfly nets, critter cages (mine like to catch fireflies, caterpillars, frogs, etc. and observe them for a while and then release them)
Garden supplies- a rake, hoe, shovel and some seeds and a watering can
Sprinklers (depending on where you live, it may not be a good Christmas gift)
Badminton
Tree house
Tire swing. Not sure if you have a tree but it’s cheap and our kids would rather play on that than the big playscape in the backyard…
(although I am laughing at the thought of a kid unwrapping a tire at Christmas lol)
My MIL is getting my son a trike, we’re getting him one of those basketball thingys, the ones you put the ball through (can’t remember the name)..
I just bought the Big Flyer from Radio FLyer. It’s a Big Wheel – remember those
Bought it online at classicredwagons.com. I lik’ to shop early for Christmas but I also found a 25% off coupon on retailmenot.com for that site so I bought it now
We;ve had other Radio Flyer trikes and wagons in the past and they are very durable, not like all the plastic stuff that is sold everywhere. I’ll add links below.
