I listen to Al Gore, and live my life according to every thing I say, I support the carbon trading system, and live with in the suggest ” GREEN” limits that our Government wants to set for us all. Should I be excluded from any ” green taxes ” sense I have been participating in it, already?
I own a Prius and commute to work electric scooter, Should I geta kick back from the carbon tradinging system?

Congratulations on being a sucker!
Since you’re not running a company, you would not have to buy any carbon credits. Personal and boutique usage of carbon (i.e. gas for your car, etc.) would not fall under the cap-and-trade guidelines and thus you would not be affected except for the increase in the cost of products where carbon dioxide is emitted in the manufacturing process. This means, however, that you cannot be excluded because there is absolutely no viable way for you to be excluded. Of course, if you drive a Prius and electric scooter, you shouldn’t have to worry at all.
What’s better is that there are proposals for cap-and-trade systems that would affect only select industries, for example utilities. This means that you would not have to worry about gas money at all. Long term, you would not have to worry about your energy bills either because the cheapest green solutions will be in the utilities sector.
Oh, and one more thing, cap-and-trade is a MARKET solution to limiting carbon emissions. Carbon credits are printed and distributed to companies which can then bid on them. Those that bid the most will get the most, and those that need them the most will likely bid the most. It’s an efficient distribution. It’s not a “green tax” at all – you’re thinking of an actual carbon tax.
Sheesh, you’d think that some people would know about what they’re trying to protest against…
Ummmm…… NO!
You should pay an additional tax due to the fact that you and your driving/commuting habits represent a higher accident risk, hence a greater liability for the health care system.
Absolutely. In fact you already do in the form of lower fuel costs. This is the beauty of a free market that builds all costs in rather than imposing taxes. Cap-and-trade will promote the popularity of vehicles like the Prius and scooters and drive the development that mitigates the Prius battery disposal problem and small engines inefficiencies. Once all costs are built into the purchase decision, new technologies will rapidly improve our choices of vehicles. Unfortunately for Americans, these will continue to be mostly imports because we are so anti-science and so slow to adapt. We will continue to give our wealth away to other nations with much stronger education and innovation ethics.
