You’ve probably broken the return spring.It’s not good to leave it loose but not hard to fix.Get a service manual and you’ll be able to repair it yourself
It’s real serious if it hangs down, and you knock it into the ground during a ride, and it makes you fall! Take it apart… It’s a visual thing. Sometimes it’s a lubrication thing also. The real problem might be finding the part?
