How can I go about building or getting built a three wheeled kick type scooter?

by admin on April 3, 2010

I want to build a lightweight scooter that I can hold things on(sort of like a dog sled) but with three wheels and light enough to be pulled by a dog? Is there a place where I can send detailed plans and have it built or how would I go about doing something like this myself?

I ran a Google Search for:
[three wheeled scooter for kids]
This the Search result page that came up:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=three+wheeled+scooter+for+kids&rlz=1R2GGLL_en&aq=1&oq=three+wheeled+sc&aqi=g5

You can buy one here:
Pulse Kick ‘N Go Scooters

Any local welding shop could build one for you.
You can buy an inexpensive one on the above Link or
probably locally and take that to a welding shop and have
them build a frame and install the KICK mechanism off the
one you bought.
That way you have control of how long the wheel base is and
the width of the wheel track.
For a higher quality constructed 3-wheeler, take everything
to a Machine shop.
There, they can custom build any components that cannot
be store bought.
Of the two options I have given you, the machine shop one
will cost the most money. It will also be the higher quality one.
Hope this information is of help in your project.

They already have plenty of models on the market you can easily buy one of use one as a model.
here are a couple of suppliers:

http://www.arctis-carts.com/carts.htm

Speak with dog mushers in your area to find out of there is someone locally already making carts.

And if I can a side note: If you a re going to do this it is really important that you get a well fit harness that is designed for pulling, not a pet harness for walking that you would find in a Petco or pet supply store.
Sled Dog Central has a list of suppliers:
http://www.sleddogcentral.com/equip&supplies.htm

And a list of clubs:
http://www.sleddogcentral.com/clubsorg.htm

and you should be able to find a knowledgeable musher in your area from one of those sources who will be able to help you correctly fit the harness and give you basic information about training your dog to work in harness.
