I have a 12 y/o and 10 y/o daughters. I raised my girls to be kind, honest, and to have self respect. They are all of those things…and they act like children not want to be grown ups. what is wrong with that? My 12 yr old is innocent and still rides her bike & scooter etc. My 10 y/o still plays with dolls. The other kids at school are flirting and trying to get boyfriends. My ex and his wife laugh at my daughter for still liking dolls…they think my girls should be like the other kids. I think its crazy for girls their age to wear make up & flirt with boys. I dont understand why parents would encourage that. Am I wrong?
I asked if I was wrong for not encouraging them to “act older”. I am trying to teach them to not follow the crowd and be imaginative and be their own person. You answered my question…I don’t want them like some of you.
I don’t prevent them from wearing make up…and i don’t force them to play with dolls.

When I go in my 12 y/o’s junior high I see a bunch of little girls looking like they are playing dress up and they look ridiculous. My daughter even giggles about it…as she thinks it’s stupid too.
If the popular crowd sleeps around, seduces boys, and dresses like a slut…then that is not where I would want my kids to be anyway. I am pettite and thin and I dress stylish, but not slutty and so do my daughters. We are into fashion and the latest trends. We also have class, self respect, and our dignity…something many teens or pre-teens nowadays haven’t learned.
I will take the advice and post in parenting.
