Daelim Scooter. Cannot get the kick start lever to move?

by admin on March 1, 2011

The battery has been dead for a month and I’ve been using the kick start. No Problems. This morning… the lever is totally frozen and I need to get to work.. HELP
I think I may have siezed the engine. I tried taking the spark plug off and no deal. Q: if the engine is seized, will the fly wheel move… I can move it. Does that tell me anything… It’s going to be hard for me to transport this to the shop… that’s why I’m trying stuff myself.

The piston may be seized to the cylinder (possibly due to rust if you live near the water).
Remove the flywheel’s side cover (should only need a 1 or 2 tools) and try to turn the flywheel.
If it won’t move, the cylinder head should be removed to check for problems.

either you’ve broken the kick start or your engine has siezed. Did you ever check the oil in the engine? Remove the spark plug and try it, that will make it easier to turn the engine over, it it can be rotated.

Not familiar with this particular bike but if you can turn the flywheel without any nasty feelings, then it’s not seized. Could be the kickstart mechanism is jammed. All sorts of things can cause this i.e. piece of broken gear, clutch basket, broken tooth on kickstart gears etc.If your bike has gears and manual clutch, then you could try pushing it in top gear slowly, preferably with plug out and listen for any nasty noises.Suggest you start by examining kickstart mechanism. A manual is invaluable if you’re not familiar with working on bikes. kickstart usually fitted with strong return spring so take care.
